Serving British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and the Yukon since its founding in 2011, the BCxA Western Canada Chapter has been working to unite the various commissioning providers, designers, and technical trades. By working within the mandate of the BCxA, our goal is to promote and demonstrate the benefits of commissioning throughout the construction industry through a collaborative approach to all aspects of building commissioning.
To this end, we have started developing a number of different networking opportunities and forums where ideas can be shared freely for the benefit of the industry as a whole. This has opened up a number of new dialogues between the design teams, building owners, and commissioning providers that will serve to improve the quality of all projects.
An informal get together to chat about what is going on in our industry.

Today building owners are faced with increasingly complex building enclosure (envelope) design, new construction materials, shrinking schedules, and code requirements to deliver energy-efficient buildings. The building enclosure must be constructed to meet the design intent for expected service life and energy use and to prevent adverse outcomes that may arise from deficient workmanship during construction.
Building enclosure commissioning (BECx), from the design to completed construction, fulfills this imperative. The presenters will identify and discuss the procedures that should be included in the building enclosure commissioning process—starting with the OPR, design, submittal reviews, project start-up, and orientation meetings, followed by preparing functional performance testing plans, conducting mock-up testing, on-site quality control, and quality assurance programs. The presentation concludes with how to test airtightness and insulation barriers of the finished building.
Over the past several years, CSA and ASTM have published standards and guides outlining procedures for a comprehensive building enclosure commissioning process, and the presenters will discuss these currently available resources.
