Tom Poeling, President, Director of Energy Solutions – U.S. Engineering Company

Tom joined the BCxA International Board in 2016, after serving on the Southwest Chapter Board of Directors for seven years. During that period, he served in various officer positions, including two terms as Southwest Board President. He currently serves as chairperson for the Marketing Committee, and is also serving on the NCBC Conference Committee. He has been involved with the commissioning industry for over 25 years, with 20 years as a commissioning provider with EMC Engineers and Eaton Energy Solutions, Inc. He is currently Director of Energy Solutions with U.S. Engineering Company, a top 25 mechanical contractor nationally. He is responsible for coordinating internal commissioning processes during design and construction. He is also involved with planning and executing energy conservation strategies for various types of projects. Tom is a graduate of Colorado State University, holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.



Dan Forino, President-Elect, PE, CCP, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, Regional Director – Horizon Engineering Associates, LLP

Dan is the Regional Director for NY, overseeing HEA’s largest office. He brings over 11 years dedicated to the commissioning industry, all with HEA. During his tenure at HEA he has focused on sustainability initiatives, indoor air quality and working with his clients to establish and improve their commissioning programs. Dan has managed and executed commissioning projects all across the U.S., with various clients including the Target Corporation and Duke University, as well as overseeing HEA’s healthcare team responsible for NYC’s top healthcare institutions. This is Dan’s second term on the International Board of Directors, and second term as Treasurer.



Candice Rogers, Treasurer, CCP, CxA, LEED AP, President – Paladin, Inc.

Prior to being re-elected to the International Board, Candice previously served as Chair of the Marketing and Outreach Committee and International Board of Directors. Candice is president of Paladin, Inc., a commissioning and engineering firm in Lexington, Kentucky. Her passion is simple: helping building owners achieve their project goals. Her association areas of interest are marketing and outreach efforts, as well as strategic planning. She has been privileged to develop commissioning guidelines for the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Policies and Procedures Manual. She presents locally to Kentucky chapters of AIA, USGBC, ASHRAE, and building owners on commissioning best practices. She is a Certified Commissioning Professional, a LEED AP BD+C. Candice holds a dual Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Management and a MBA in International Business.



Ryan S. Lean, Secretary, PE, LEED AP, CCP, WELL AP, Associate Partner – Jaros, Baum & Bolles

In addition to his current role on the BCxA International Board, Ryan has previously served as President of the Building Commissioning Certification Board, the organization responsible for establishing certification of professional commissioning providers, as well as Vice President and Membership Chair of the Northeast Chapter of the BCxA. Ryan leads JB&B’s Commissioning Department providing building commissioning and related services for commercial, mission-critical, educational, laboratory, healthcare and LEED green buildings. Ryan leverages his extensive experience in mechanical design of large-scale central plants to manage all new construction and existing building commissioning projects at JB&B, including day-to-day activities at the World Trade Center and Hudson Yards projects. Ryan views the field of building commissioning and related services as one meant to foster relationships with owners and operators, to guide them through the challenges of transitioning to a new facility, whether it’s a commercial, mission-critical, educational, laboratory, healthcare, cultural or financial institution. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York.



John D. Villani, Immediate Past President, PE, CCP, CEM, LEED AP, Vice President – Grumman/Butkus Associates

John has served as Director-at-Large on BCxA’s International Board, and was president of the BCxA Central Chapter, which covers 12 states throughout the Midwest. John currently leads new and existing building commissioning activities for Grumman/Butkus’ energy efficiency consulting and sustainable design engineering projects. He previously worked with Johnson Controls implementing multimillion-dollar energy conservation performance contracts and controls projects, and was a staff member of Columbia University’s facilities operations and building operations departments. His background as Owner, Contractor, and Consultant enhances his perspective as a commissioning engineer. John earned his undergraduate degree at SUNY Maritime College, one of the country’s Merchant Marine colleges, as well as his US Merchant Marines Third Assistant Engineer license from the US Coast Guard.


 

Directors-at-Large


Wayne Dunn, PE, PEng, LEED AP, Principal & Mechanical Engineer – E.W. Dunn Developments, Inc.

Wayne has presented at the BCxA’s NCBC conference every year since its inception in 1993. He has been involved with project management, systems integration, quality assurance, and commissioning for over 30 years. Project experience varies from modern offices to laboratories and launch complexes with effort focused on equipment/system validation, improving technical performance, and energy efficiency. After years of mission critical and system optimization projects, he is now focused on developing technical partnerships that leverage technology and share rewards. Wayne has chaired association technical committees such as ASHRAE: SSPC 55 Thermal Comfort Standard and ASHRAE: GPC 20 – XML Definitions for HVAC&R. He has published several papers on commissioning, relating to risk management, energy performance, and owner satisfaction. He is an industry speaker on energy efficiency and commissioning. In addition to being a registered professional engineer in the US and Canada, Wayne holds technical certifications related to indoor air quality and microgrids.



Mike Dooley, PE, New England Commissioning Director – AKF Group LLC

Michael is highly respected for his comprehensive industry knowledge and his impressive technical expertise. He has built many long-term relationships of trust with clients who appreciate that he takes ownership of all aspects of a project to bring it to a successful conclusion. Having worked as a service supervisor on process cooling for chilled water plants, he understands how to troubleshoot equipment servicing issues, and his experience with a design / build contractor informed his understanding of the construction process. Mike is also an excellent mentor for young engineers and he has shared his expertise on the topic of Acceptance Procedures at professional industry events.



Lyn Gomes, CCP, PE, LEED AP

Prior to joining the International Board, Lyn was on the board of the California BCA. She has been on the board of the BCA Annual Conference since 2015.  Outside of the BCA, Lyn is a commissioning coordinator at DPR Construction. She is co-chair for the new IES standard on sequences of operation for lighting control systems and teaches classes on lighting control systems and will chair the upcoming revision to DG-29, the Commissioning Process Applied to Lighting and Control Systems. She also teaches classes on lighting control systems at the Pacific Energy Center and LightFair. In her spare time, she is on the advisory board of Techbridge, an afterschool STEM program for girls, who awarded her “role model of the year” in 2009.

 


Tracey Jumper, CCP, LEED AP, Jump-Start Building Commissioning LLC

In addition to joining the International Board this year, Tracey Jumper is the 2016 President’s Award recipient, receiving the honor for years of dedication, outstanding service, and exceptional leadership in the BCxA. Tracey has served on the boards of the Central and National Capitol Chapters and has served on the NCBC conference planning committee. She is a BCxA University instructor for the EBCx training course, and currently serves on the Training and Education committee. Tracey enjoys bringing successful, energizing, educational activities to BCxA members and across multiple organizations, and her favorite presentation and outreach topic is “The Value of Commissioning.” She worked across the country on high-profile design projects before focusing her work on commissioning and energy services for the last eight years. She has built successful commissioning teams within larger organizations previously, and now has established her own company, Jump-Start Building Commissioning LLC, based in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Tracey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.



John F. Penney, PE, CBCP, EBCP, CEM, President – John F. Penney Consulting Services, pc

John is a past president of the Northeast Chapter of the BCxA. He has over 35 years of experience in mechanical engineering and commissioning, and in 2001 commissioning became an integral part of his consulting work. He has commissioned over four million square feet on more than 120 projects. He is the president of JFP Consulting Services and specializes in Commissioning, HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Engineering. John is a graduate of Vermont Technical College. He developed the curriculum and taught HVAC, Plumbing, and Construction Management for the Vermont Center for Business and Industry and at Vermont Technical College. John has spoken on energy and sustainability in buildings and commissioning at conferences across the country.



John A. Runkle, PE, Vice President – Intertek – Architectural Testing, Inc.

John serves as the BCxA’s liaison to ASTM and served as Vice President of the National Capitol Chapter for many years. He actively participates in the BCxA as a presenter for different chapters and NCBC. He has been active in the formation of a new international BCxA chapter in the United Arab Emirates. John is Vice President of Building Sciences Solutions for Architectural Testing, Inc., an Intertek company. He brings over 15 years of experience as a building enclosure consultant and enclosure commissioning provider, and has been integral to development of the practice area of building enclosure commissioning domestically and internationally. He has assisted in the development of new testing standards and techniques for the building enclosure. He manages offices throughout North America and staff in the Middle East and China. Mr. Runkle has worked on new construction and retrofit projects for commercial, industrial, and residential structures in most of the 50 states and several countries. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.



Jesse Sycuro, PE, CCP, CEM, LEED AP, Managing Director Facility Solutions – Enterprise Critical Environments

Enterprise Critical Environments – Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions. In this role, Jesse supports over 120 MW of critical environment infrastructure for the U.S. enterprise assets of a major software and cloud services provider. Jesse served previously on BCxA’s International Board, and has now rejoined the Board for the current term. He is also co-Chair of the Conference (NCBC) Planning Committee, and has chaired the BCxA’s Professional Development Committee, Standards Committee, Best Practices Committee, and Membership Committee. Jesse earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Colorado in geography and a master’s in engineering management at Old Dominion University, then joined the Navy’s nuclear power training program. Leaving the Navy for McKinstry in 2005 he found commissioning to be a perfect fit – complex systems and process-oriented, and a great segue from ships (buildings on the sea) to commercial facilities (ships that don’t go to sea). Jesse joined the Brookfield GIS team, following an exciting merger with the McKinstry Company in 2016, providing smart solutions for building optimization.


Geremy Wolff, Business Development Director – Technical Services – McKinstry

Mr. Wolff’s commissioning experience began in 1998 after graduating with a mechanical engineering degree working for McKinstry, a facility solution company that performs commissioning, consulting services, service and maintenance, energy services, and design/build MEDP services.

Initially, trained to perform Test Adjust and Balance (TAB) work on large new construction projects. After a short period of time he moved into control system verification and eventually leadership of the onsite project commissioning team and process. This included several projects where an extended operations transition solution was provided ranging from 3 – 9 months’ onsite post occupancy during which systems were fine-tuned, operating and maintenance procedures were written, and enhanced training was provided to the facility operations staff. My projects ranged in size from tenant improvements to multi-million dollar projects such as Century Link Field, data centers, hospitals, bio-tech research facilities, and large campus expansions for both public and private clients. The exposure to these unique and diverse projects enabled me to cultivate an extensive background in design, construction, commissioning and building operations.
