At near record-breaking attendance, Spring Training BCxA Style kicked off with our BCxA In-Person 2-day Commissioning for New Construction Training Class, followed by the 2-day Existing Building Commissioning Class, at the Evanston, IL office of Grumman/Butkus Associates. Our hosts, John Villani and Kevin Vander Klay, hit it out of the park providing a great venue for the training. They also arranged for a catered “Lunch-n-Learn” each day with local MEP vendors and hosted a guided walking tour of the new central utility plant at Northwestern University.

Phrases by an attendee from DLR Group: “Craig’s [Hawkins, instructor] passion for the commissioning process … kept the presentation engaging by mixing in relatable stories from his on the job experience … an inside view of what it is like to be an experienced commissioning professional … day to day commissioning work such as design reviews, functional performance testing, and issues log organization … a “hands on” portion … to attempt a design review of an air handling unit system … and writing a functional performance test for a refrigerant sensing/alarm system. The seminar was a good mix of hands on learning, lecture, and storytelling all related to new construction commissioning projects.

The week in Evanston was a fantastic kick-off to our year-long emphasis on BCxA Education. Our in-person training staff, led by Tracey Jumper, CCP and Craig Hawkins CxA, CCP, are excited to continue to deliver these informative and entertaining educational sessions throughout the year. Be sure to check for new classes in the University pages of the website
