FROM THE FIELD EBCx: Plant Research Center Meets FDD and MBCx

If a facility is meeting occupant comfort requirements, are there reasons for EBCx? No matter where you are in the world, commissioning for better building performance matters. The High Resolution Plant Phenomics Centre (HRPPC) Phytotron is a two story, 33,583 SF controlled critical environment plant research laboratory in Australia. The building was constructed in 1962 and has undergone several refurbishments since. Although the HVAC system was meeting occupant comfort and equipment environment requirements there was an opportunity to use a Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) tool to identify equipment inefficiencies and potential energy savings, with MBCx to verify performance. The project resulted in significantly improved building performance and a 20% average reduction in monthly energy consumption. READ MORE
