BCxA Scholarship Foundation Award

BCxA Scholarship Foundation is now accepting Applications!  Apply for scholarships to be awarded in early 2019. Applications are due no later than Friday, January 18, 2019.

In 2018, the BCxA Scholarship Foundation was pleased to award $1,000 to Joyce Kelly, a scholarship candidate from Arizona who is her company’s Architectural Eco-Systems Specialist. Joyce’s experience in commissioning began with her firm, GLHN Architects & Engineers, Inc. and she has grown her role from lighting and controls design to participating in the commissioning of building enclosures.

“At first, my interest in the functional aspects of lighting and controls design led me to Cx assignments as contract work. As I began to see the results of all commissioning disciplines on the quality of the end product,

I assisted with building envelope Cx work and general documentation of the entire process. This led to a few assignments to manage small commissioning projects. Through my role as LEED consultant, I began writing Measurement and Verification (M&V) plans. These enhance our commissioning efforts by yielding end use data that can reveal hidden deficiencies and facilitate ongoing commissioning.” Joyce plans to expand her role in commissioning through further education and training, among which is achieving the Cx Provider Certificate from the BCxA University program.

The Foundation’s mission is to encourage and motivate qualified students, continuing education candidates and industry newcomers to pursue study in fields of building science including engineering, architecture, building construction, building performance, and other fields related to building commissioning.
