ASHRAE 2019: Building Our New Energy Future

This year ASHRAE President Sheila Hayter is promoting a platform for Building Our New Energy Future, emphasizing the importance that buildings, distributed generation, smart grid and smart building controls hold in that future. The BCxA continues to leverage partnerships to work towards the shared goal of achieving that New Energy Future. Buildings are now the focus for power generation and distribution, and ASHRAE is looking to take a leadership position to drive the larger mission. They are also looking for partners with building performance experience that will help them expand. BCxA’s mission to deliver building performance is a key component to this sustainability future. BCxA has always preached whole building performance, and there is an opportunity to expand beyond demand side systems into these increasingly familiar technologies.

ASHRAE plans to take a leadership role, and they will need our help to get there. Conversely, the need for the BCxA to partner with design engineers and industry vendors is more evident now than ever. As we roll into 2019, we will continue to define the value proposition that BCxA members bring to whole building performance, and leverage like-minded partnerships to get there without delay.
