Getting to Zero: Drivers, Technologies & Buildings Database

The New Buildings Institute (NBI) hosted a webinar this month presenting nationwide research on the status and trends of zero energy buildings, and the organization’s “Getting to Zero Buildings Database.”

The presentation included the Vice President, Global Sustainability and Industry Initiatives at Johnson Controls, who shared findings from the 2018 Energy Efficiency Indicator Study, a survey of 1,900 facility and energy management executives in 20 countries evaluating global market trends driving investment in energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart building technologies.

The webinar included discussion of common building systems and technologies used in getting to zero, and building systems integration and forecast for investment in specific building systems.

In the United States, cybersecurity, systems integration, and data visualization were identified as the technologies that will have the biggest impact on the implementation of smart buildings over the next five years.

Globally, the top technology trends were identified as cybersecurity, systems integration, and the Internet of Things.
