Annual 2019 Energy Efficiency Report: 2019 ACEEE State Scorecard Is In!

On October 1, the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) published its annual State Energy Efficiency Scorecard, ranking all 50 states for energy efficiency achievements in four major categories that directly affect the commercial building industry:

  1. Utility and public benefits
  2. Building energy efficiency
  3. Combined heat and power (CHP)
  4. State government initiatives

The annual ranking reveals trends, captures program and regulatory activities, and provides guidance for energy efficiency codes, standards, and planning.

The top 5 states for 2019 ranking from 1 (best) to 5, are Massachusetts, California, Rhode Island, Vermont, and New York. According to ACEEE, “the most improved state is Maryland; other significantly improved states include Hawaii and New Jersey. The Scorecard shows that energy efficiency is a key resource nationwide, with utilities spending approximately $8 billion in 2018 for efficiency programs and saving 27.1 million MWh of electricity.”
