Efficiency Canada has published its second annual energy efficiency scorecard, a report rating the activities in each of 10 participating provincial areas (includes all except Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut). The accompanying database, which does include all of Canada’s provinces and territories, identifies efforts (or lack) of each in supporting energy efficiency programs, enabling policies and regulations, building codes and rating systems, transportation, and industry.

The report shows increased provincial action in areas such as building codes, which “will need to continue as the federal government publishes updated model national codes intended to put Canada on a path to net-zero energy-ready buildings by 2030.” Strengths and opportunities for improvement in each province are described in the report.

Energy savings in Canada will be largely driven by the provinces and territories because they have jurisdiction over policy areas, such as public utility regulation and building energy codes. The images below show the scorecard ratings and changes from 2019 to 2020.
