Data Analysis Know-How

  • Reinhard Seidl, PE – Taylor Engineering
  • Ryan Stroupe – PG&E Pacific Energy Center

In the Existing Building Commissioning process (EBCx) data can be retrieved from many sources including utility bills, smart-meters (interval data), EMS trend data, climate/weather data and data loggers. This data can be used to assess specific systems issues and building usage patterns for possible energy savings and operational improvements. Understanding what all the data means and how to best represent it to the owner is a critical skill in the EBCx process. The presenters for this session review various data sources, the data collection process, data format types, data representation alternatives, data diagnostic techniques and strategies for presenting the data findings to building owners in a way they will understand.
