Mid-Level Commissioning Engineer

Our Engineering & Architectural Services Department is seeking trustworthy and energetic Mid-Level Commissioning Engineers for our Sacramento, San Jose, San Diego and/or Phoenix offices.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities
• Experience with LEED, CalGreen and/or California Energy Code commissioning requirements.
• Experience with managing and executing commissioning of HVAC and control systems for new and existing building retrofits.
• Experience in preparation of sequence of operations for HVAC and control systems and able to perform point-to-point commissioning of Energy Management Systems.
• Provide project management and coordination on projects to meet client expectations for technical excellence, budget and schedule.
• Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors and other project team members.
• Produce summary reports and presentations and deliver them to clients, multidisciplinary project teams and other audiences.
• Support business development activities: networking at industry events, develop and maintain client relationships, preparation of proposals.

Requirements & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Solid knowledge of mechanical systems and controls required
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) highly preferred
• One or more of these professional certifications: LEED AP, CBCP or other commissioning certifications highly preferred

Commissioning Agent

In this role, you will be responsible for resolving commissioning challenges and completing tasks assigned, including developing and implementing commissioning process delivery plans from information set forth in Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD), plans and specification construction documents, as well as information gathered from users, project partners, field surveys, and code research.

What you will need to Succeed:
• Technical or Associate Degree in HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, or architectural design, or construction engineering from an accredited technical institution or college; or commensurate design or construction experience.
• General understanding of building systems across disciplines including fire protection, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing/piping.
• Knowledge of and ability to interpret codes, guidelines and standards related to commissioning, design and construction.
• Experience in computer operation and ability to learn engineering calculation programs, computer-aided drafting/BIM software for the purpose accessing and interpreting design requirements.
• Valid driver’s license and state required vehicle insurance.

Senior Commissioning Oversight Manager

SUMMARY
The Senior Commissioning Oversight Manager oversees multiple teams delivering a commissioning oversight program to ensure the quality and effective integration of projects into building operations and maintenance. The Senior Commissioning Oversight Manager manages all aspects of the commissioning oversight services for the PDS & OPDS projects.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

People Leadership
Demonstrates strong, competent leadership for team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their objectives, which supports achievement of our corporate goals. Specifically, these responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Full involvement with recruiting talent
• Provides mentoring, coaching and guidance to all team members

Commissioning Oversight Service Delivery
• Coordinates both programs of project work i.e. Project Delivery Services – PDS (<$1M) & Optional Project Delivery Services – OPDS (> $1M)
• First point of contact with Project Directors of the PDS & OPDS program and with Portfolio Managers (Property Management Services – PMS).
• Single point of accountability for commissioning, the Commissioning Oversight Program & the Commissioning Oversight Managers and Specialists.
• Ensures consistency with CSA Z320 – Building Commissioning Standard & PSPC commissioning policy & guidance documents.
• Monitors and trains Commissioning Oversight teams to ensure commissioning activities are performed according to the Commissioning Oversight Program.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• University degree in related field, engineering preferred
• 10+ years’ experience in Building Maintenance Operations preferred
• Building Automatization Control, design and construction industry experience considered an asset
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills
• Effective public speaking skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to develop, analyze and understand complex processes
• Previous Management experience is considered an asset.
• Bilingualism is considered an asset

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Architecture degree with 3 years of related
experience – or – Certified Energy Manager –or- 2 year Associates Degree with 5 years of related
experience
• Commissioning Certification a plus
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Associate Director for Automation Services

UVA’s Facilities Management is hiring an Associate Director for Automation Services. The position provides leadership, strategic planning, and program management of the Automation Services team responsible for planning, design, installation, renewal and maintenance of building automation system (BAS) controls in new construction, major and minor renovation projects, and existing buildings and infrastructure. Responsibilities include strategic planning, enterprise management, directing BAS programs and projects, managing BAS operation and maintenance, leading and developing teams, developing and managing construction budgets, administering team budgets, and partnering with other teams to advance sustainability and organizational goals. The individual in this position must have strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; extensive technical knowledge and expertise; and the ability to form collaborative partnerships with project managers, consultants, contractors, and facilities staff.

Sustainability is a strong focus and the individual in this position will work with the sustainability group to ensure control strategies and HVAC systems are implemented in a way that reduces energy consumption and provides for the best life cycle operation.

Candidates will have a record of creative, inspiring, and accomplished leadership in complex environments with a commitment to advancing the organization’s goals. Candidates must have at least 7 years experience in the field of building automation systems; operations and management; building mechanical, electrical or controls; complex industrial setting, or a similar setting. Candidates will have experience leading and developing teams. They will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational and project management skills with the ability to interface with all levels. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, computer science, math, physics or similar field is required. Preferred candidates will be licensed engineers with LEED certification.
