About the Job:

Our Engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. In this position, you will be expected to lead the Commissioning group for the west coast on a variety of buildings projects with responsibilities in business development and project management.

• Identify, qualify and monitor building commissioning opportunities for the firm
• Be a lead for business development activities and regularly meet with clients
• Communicate and coordinate with marketing team and proposal development following company standards including ISO process
• Project management includes financial management, resource scheduling, and project progress tracking tasks to maintain project budget
• Coordinates with the OMD for maintaining and keeping within annual office budget in terms of growth potential and profit guidelines
• Maintain scope on all projects under the Commissioning discipline to prevent slippage, or scope creep
• Teach the Cx staff how to recognize out of scope and maintain client communication
• Visit projects on a regular basis for continuing the exposure of company to client relationship and ensuring the client expectations are met – be prepared to mitigate issues as they arise.
• Help develop commissioning staff acumen with respect to our various markets
• Follow ISO process as defined for commissioning discipline

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Construction-related field
• 12+ years of Building Commissioning experience involving business development and project management
• Demonstrates extensive knowledge and understanding of practice area, client’s businesses, competitors, and the industry at large
• Maintains strong relationships with clients and external professional/ industry groups
• Technical knowledge of HVAC and building systems in order to evaluate and test the performance of these systems
• PE, CEM, CBCP and / or LEED certification is preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Heery International seeks to hire a Commissioning Agent (CxA) with proven MEP construction project experience to support ground up, public institutional and commercial projects in California. The candidate will demonstrate strong self-motivation, excellent communication skills and an understanding of mechanical and/or electrical building systems and construction processes. The Commissioning Agent will provide project support to complete commissioning activities under the direction and oversight of the Project Commissioning Manager for multiple commissioning appointments from concept design through functional testing of systems to post occupancy verification. The position provides strong potential for on job training and professional growth. The Commissioning Agent (CxA) verifies and validates that designed, installed and tested plant and equipment satisfies the environmental performance criteria specified and meets the client’s operational needs through all modes of operation. The CxA is an objective, third party Building Services advocate and acts in a staff advisory capacity of the Owner who exercises discretion and independent thought in fulfilling the role. Will report to the Senior Commissioning Agent and Operations Manager. Provide commissioning related services and QA/QC on project sites as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

3-5 years of MEP experience in the construction industry, building commissioning process, MEP install and start-up, BAS Controls or facilities management operations.

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.

CA CCP, CEM, and LEED accreditation, or a P.E. in M/E and OSHA 10 safety certifications all beneficial.

Scope & Responsibilities:
New Construction Commissioning
• Develop commissioning documents including the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), Commissioning Plan & Report, and Systems Manual.
• Perform submittal reviews against OPR and Basis of Design, and conduct construction document design reviews.
• Complete field reviews independently.
• Draft functional performance test procedures, and conduct on-site functional performance testing of HVAC&R, domestic hot water, lighting & lighting controls and BAS.
• Review BAS trend logs to validate ongoing performance
• Draft final commissioning reports and systems manual reports.

Existing Building Commissioning & Energy Audits
• Perform re/retro-commissioning investigations and energy audits including site visits, targeted functional performance testing, and review BAS trend-logs and programming.
• Identify energy saving opportunities, and perform energy calculations and cost/benefit analyses.
• Implement ongoing commissioning plans, complete reviews of energy data, maintenance logs, and BAS trend-logs.

Desired Qualifications:
• University degree or technical diploma in engineering, engineering technology, or building science.
• Minimum 5 years directly related experience.
• Hands-on technical skills.
• Familiar with commissioning processes as outlined by ASHRAE, LEED, BCxA, NEBB, and others.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Self-motivated – ability to work on your own with minimal supervision.
