This course is qualified for 9 AIA/CES learning units.

This class is designed to lead attendees through the New Construction Commissioning (NCCx) process phase by phase so that they understand the goals and benefits of commissioning (Cx), and the roles and responsibilities of all the stakeholders in the Cx process. BCxA’s field-experienced subject matter experts lead team discussions focused on the NCCx Process, including deep dives into the How Who, and Why of design reviews and writing functional tests. Attendees will learn the importance of all the deliverables in the NCCx process for the owner including:

Existing Building Commissioning

Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) is an effective way to gain optimal performance, and improve occupant safety and comfort in a previously built facility. In today’s economy, owners are looking for ways to keep their buildings healthy, decrease utility costs, reduce maintenance costs, and improve occupants’ working environment. This EBCx training focuses on the What, Why, and How-To of EBCx. Participants receive comprehensive instruction on each phase of the existing building commissioning process, based on BCxA’s Best Practices, taught by professionals with extensive industry experience.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify what buildings and systems are ideal for the existing building commissioning process.
  • Describe the benefits and goals of the EBCx process.
  • Analyze facility performance through a systematic process that includes establishing a baseline, performing energy calculations, reviewing documentation, and conducting functional testing.
  • List all deliverables the owner will receive during the EBCx process and identify the contents in each.

Building Enclosure Commissioning

This course is qualified for 5.5 AIA/CES learning units.

This seminar introduces the Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) process by outlining key quality-based tasks that achieve a successful building enclosure. The seminar focuses on BECx activities from predesign to occupancy and operation. Topics include: defining the building enclosure and performance requirements, developing the Owner’s Project Requirements; creating the BECx plan; critical building science and architectural issues to address in design review and specifications; construction observation; and performance verification testing. The seminar also describes how an Owner’s risk can be reduced by undertaking BECx, LEED V4 BECx requirements, and commissioning goals. The intended audience includes building owners and developers, architects, engineers, construction managers, contractors, and commissioning providers.
