Once a year, BCxA’s board of directors, chapter leaders, committee chairs and staff gather for two days to assess the prior year’s accomplishments and develop achievable goals for the year to come. This year’s meeting in February took place in Phoenix, AZ at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa that will be the Annual Conference venue in September. The three goals for BCxA leaders at this meeting are to:

  1. Take part in setting the Association’s goals and be empowered with knowledge to actively support and disseminate outcomes to other members.
  2. Develop consensus on all decisions and commit to actively support them.
  3. Set strategies and activities to accomplish the BCxA’s goals for the year.

Prior to the meeting, Leaders completed a brief survey about the value of BCxA’s activities, as a point of departure for planning and discussion. One survey question, “What does BCxA offer that is most valuable to you?” prompted considerable discussion by chapters and committees throughout the meeting.

Highlights

The meeting began with a review of 2019 highlights for the BCxA, the Scholarship Foundation, and the Building Commissioning Certification Board (BCCB). The meeting included discussion of achievements and goal-setting by Chapters and Committees, followed by deeper dives into market and advocacy issues that affect the building industry and commissioning providers.

Immediate Past President Tom Poeling described highlights of 2019 activities. Here are the top 10:

President Dan Forino introduced plans and Association activities under way for 2020, including a major initiative to attract members at an early stage in their career path. The BCxA “20 Under 40” Campaign begins this year, and will identify commissioning providers who represent BCxA Best Practices in their work.

The overall Association, along with each of the 10 regional chapters, and each BCxA committee, reported on 2019 and presented 2020 goals. A comprehensive report to members will be completed in March, with opportunities to engage in continuing and new exciting 2020 activities.
